Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub Reviews

Review of Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub
By Caroline S.

Packaging: Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub is instantly recognisable as belonging to the Burt's Bees range thanks to its distinctive yellow and orange colouring. It comes in a large, squeezable plastic tube made from 18% recycled plastic - and is suitable for recycling after use. This is a good, honest, simple packaging design without fuss or fanciness and is easy to use - what more can you ask for?

Application: Firstly I must confess that for the last three years I have only used one exfoliating cleanser and it is my absolute hero product of all time - Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser. I fell in love with it on first use and have been raving about it ever since (trust me, it is phenomenal). HOWEVER, the Suki range is not ideal for those on a budget and with Christmas fast approaching it is time for us all to look to more cost-effective methods of beautifying ourselves for the party season. So step forward Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub.
The first thing you notice when you squeeze some of the cleanser onto your hand is the smell. Like all Burt’s Bees Products, it has an overwhelmingly delicious peaches-and-cream scent that transports your senses to lying on an exotic beach in the sunshine, devouring peach ice cream. Wonderful. The second thing you notice is the small brown pieces of ground peach kernel in the thick, white cream cleanser.
Now, everybody has their own method of cleansing - so I tried this on a face full of make-up and also on a face that I had cleansed prior to application of the scrub. I have to say that it removed make-up surprisingly well and I was really quite impressed. The thick cream of the cleanser does dissolve dirt fairly rapidly and fairly thoroughly - although I did feel a little uncomfortable with the notion that I might be scrubbing some dirt into my skin, so my preference would be to use this on skin which has had a quick prior cleansing.
I also tried comparing its efficacy by applying to a wet face and then a dry face. I found that I actually preferred applying it to a dry face because I felt that gave a deeper exfoliation and a more moisturising cleanse. Obviously this will depend on your skin type and personal preferences - if you have delicate skin, applying to a wet face will result in less "scratching" from the peach kernel pieces.
Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub is very thick, very creamy and spreads beautifully across the skin when gently smoothed over the face. The pieces of peach kernel, for me, were perhaps a little bit large and quite sharp. I gave my face a really thorough and firm scrub by massaging the cleanser deeply into my face and then rinsed. It felt a little bit uncomfortable during the process - as though thousands of tiny nails were clawing across my face - but I can't deny that it left my skin glowing and completely exfoliated. Rubbing a little more gently gives a softer exfoliation but still leaves skin beautifully clean and plumped up.
The only thing I personally wasn't 100% keen on was the feeling after rinsing that there was still some residue on my skin. This is fairly typical of Burt's Bees products and is one of things that people love - because the oils left behind are extremely moisturising. However, I like to put my serums and creams onto a completely clean face and so, after using the Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub, I found that rinsing again with water and a muslin cloth gave the best results. Using a good, natural toner on cotton wool will also remove much of the residue if you feel your face has been left slightly waxy.

Ingredients: Active ingredients include grape seed oil, peach seed powder, coconut oil, willowbark extract, matricaria flower extract, golden seal extract, bladderwrack extract, hawaiian white ginger root extract,
Willow bark contains natural beta hydroxy acids to unclog pores and golden seal extract is used for its astringent properties. Ginger and sea algae extracts replenish essential minerals

Results: So, how did Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub Scrub stand up its testing by a confirmed devotee of a premium-range exfoliator? Actually, I was pretty impressed. Even though I felt that the exfoliating granules in this product were a little sharp, they didn't irritate my dry, sensitive skin at all - probably due to the beautifully creamy and calming cleanser itself. It removed dirt, grime and make-up really well and left skin feeling super-clean yet very moisturised and plumped. After a really thorough scrub I was left with a lovely glow to my skin and a peachy scent that lingers for hours - not great for my diet though, as it left me craving the aforementioned ice cream!
I think that having this as an addition to your bathroom is a worthwhile investment. It is gentle enough to use daily - provided you don't scrub hard and use a lot of water to rinse. It is also great for a weekly deep-clean and for the price you can't really go wrong - you get whopping 110g/4oz of product for £9.99 delivered from Naturisimo. That has to fit the needs of even the most price-conscious consumer.

Pros
Thorough cleansing ability - removes dirt and make up as well as dead skin cells
Very moisturising - leaves a film of moisturising oil on the skin which is great for those with very dry skin or for men who want a cleanser and moisturiser in one
Very affordable, one tube will last for ages
Smells absolutely amazing
Leave skin plumped, firm and glowing
Good ratio of exfoliating pieces to cream cleanser

Cons
Might be a little harsh on very sensitive skins as the exfoliating pieces are quite "scratchy"
Some people won't like the feel of residue on the face after using this product
Might well be unsuitable for those with oily skin - although willowbark unclogs pores, the moisturising ingredients might be verging on moisture overload!
